Author Chris Highland, teacher, writer, social worker, former minister and chaplain, tells the story of his emergence from Evangelical Christianism and ordained Protestant ministry through twenty-five years of counseling, teaching and social service. He shows how he "changed addresses" to move out and beyond to "natural spirituality" beyond faith, beyond god. Hopeful, positive, constructive, this book offers an "exodus," a way out, for those who may be seeking creative pathways (other rivers) out of supernatural faith traditions. Includes chapters on Thomas Paine, Ralph W. Emerson, Henry Thoreau, Margaret Fuller and John Burroughs, black and white Nature photographs by the author, nine appendices and nearly three hundred endnotes.

Life After Faith edition by Chris Highland Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
In "Life After Faith" Chris Highland reflects on the paths of John Muir, John Burroughs, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thomas Paine and other inspired freethinkers while describing his own journey to a fuller appreciation of nature and what it means to be alive. I found this book to be both invigorating and thought provoking.
RE Life After Faith
The author has edited some wonderful books, but this autobiography is a bit labored.
Perhaps his life's challenges are so similar to mine that I'm in no position to go over
the details yet another time. Thanks for asking.
Highland depends on the writings of Emerson, Thoreau, Wadsworth, and Founding Fathers to justify his life without faith. He has experimented and/or studied world religions and points out the fallacies in all these religions. He basically points out that religions are too quick to accept belief over evidenced- based knowledge. I guess it takes time to work through your personal religious struggles, but I thought he could have done it in half the pages he used.
